How These Cyber Heroes Are Securing Our Digital World

They don’t wear capes, but they’re safeguarding your data, your networks and your future

  • Infosecurity Europe 2025 is a call to action: the future of cybersecurity is in our hands, and together we can take action to secure it.
  • No action is too small—every move to secure the cyber realm helps us all.
  • We’re here to spotlight the heroes driving change through education, policy and bold new initiatives.

These days it seems like news articles everywhere like to evoke a sense of fear with hair-raising headlines about the latest threats (not just in cybersecurity, either). Even though it’s true that ransomware cartelsnation-state espionage and APTs raise the stakes every day, with small to medium-sized businesses (SMBs) facing increasing pressure, security experts around the world are pushing back and putting in the work to keep us protected.

“Building a safer cyberworld” is a shared responsibility—and that’s why it’s Infosecurity Europe 2025’s tagline for their conference in London this June. Across the industry, people are stepping up in both big and small ways to make the digital world safer, smarter and more human. From tech powerhouses like Microsoft and Google to college research teams and global initiatives, the momentum is real. It’s time we shed some light on the heroes reshaping cybersecurity from the inside out.

Many forces, one mission: A safer digital world

United under this mission, our community is living proof that real progress is happening—everywhere, at every scale, all at once. Here’s how the cybersecurity community is showing up for the world—and what we’re doing to help.

UN Cybercrime Convention: Uniting nations to fight cybercrime

Cybercrime knows no borders, so policy can’t either. Adopted in late 2024, the The UN Convention Against Cybercrime unites member states around a single playbook for international cooperation, technical assistance and capacity-building, so countries can better collaborate against cybercrime and reduce latent misuse of information and communications technologies (ICT). This milestone cybercrime treaty’s ongoing impact, however, hinges on continued engagement from governments and cybersecurity leaders who keep that shield strong.

SFI: Redefining product security for everyone

With passwordless sign-ins, phishing-resistant multi-factor authentication (MFA) and the adoption of memory-safe languages like Rust, community efforts are raising the global standard for security.

One of these is Secure Future Initiative (SFI)—a long-term effort to redefine how software is built operated. The initiative  has already thwarted $4 billion in fraud using new policies, behavioral-based detection models and investigation methods. SFI has significantly reduced the risk of unauthorized access for its own workforce, showing that real security heroes lead by example.

Google: Leveraging AI to spot scams

Talk about AI used for good—Google’s AI-powered scam detection now scans over 2 billion suspect messages each month in its Messages app. Working in real time, it flags crypto scams, impersonation attempts and other threats before they reach users—securing one of the internet’s busiest communication channels and, by extension, strengthening our shared digital world.

Arrow and Carahsoft: Building a skilled cyber workforce

Our partners are investing in one of the most crucial areas of cybersecurity—its people. Arrow Education, now an official ISC2 training provider, is helping professionals across the UK and Central and Western Europe gain practical, hands-on skills. They’re also developing the leadership expertise needed to guide our workforce amidst rising threats.

In the U.S. federal and public sector, Carahsoft has recently joined forces with NightDragon, The Cyber Guild and Billington CyberSecurity to launch The Coalition, a joint commitment to growing a skilled, resilient cybersecurity workforce. Together, they’ve outlined a series of goals that aim to bridge gaps in cyber talent, foster community and engagement and strengthen public-private partnerships.

When you’ve got partners like ours who put education and community at the forefront of their agenda, you know the future is looking bright.

Youth Initiatives: Empowering the next generation of cyber heroes

These community leaders have taken education one step further, ensuring the next generation is set up for success from the start.

  • Girl Security’s National Fellows Program—the first and only youth-centered national security program in America—is giving young women the tools for leadership across government, business, and tech. With a flagship mentorship program, they’re supporting women at every stage of their careers, propelling their growth and success.
  • Yamil Quispe recently launched Georgia Tech’s first-ever Hacker House, a nine-month, live-in residency where students (aka the future of cybersecurity) can develop security startups, engage in new research and collaborate in creative projects.

When you give individuals the right tools and strengthen their foundations, you empower them to build a stronger, better world for themselves and their community. And our next heroes are sheer proof of it.

Rising Talent: Leading the charge towards innovation

The RIT-K CIT Research Team is garnering international recognition for their standout work in cybersecurity’s most stellar frontiers: space. Their research explores how satellite systems and space missions can be vulnerable to cyberattacks—and what can be done to secure them. Professors Blerta Prevalla Etemi and Debabrata Samanta, with students Dalina Canhasi and Olti Haxhiavdyli, will present their findings at the 6th International Conference on Data Analytics & Management (ICDAM-2025), offering insights into protecting communication, navigation and surveillance technologies in orbit that help power our hyper-connected world.

Threat Hunters: Elevating global defense

While researchers are charting new paths in space, the Symantec Threat Hunters are holding the line here on Earth. Operating at the frontlines of cyberdefense and analytics, they’re known for identifying threats like Medusa Ransomware and exposing their tactics, they’re making sure we’re all a step ahead of the enemy.
Here’s how they’re powering stronger defenses across the globe:

Leveraging data from both Symantec and Carbon Black, our Threat Hunters translate threat intelligence into action. With Arnaud Taddei, our Global Security Strategist, now chairing ITU-SG-17, that momentum extends to policy—laying the groundwork for a safer, more resilient cyberworld.

Carbon Black: Enterprise-grade security for all

As enterprise-grade attackers have begun targeting even small- and mid-size businesses, more organizations than ever are realizing they need solutions they can trust to deliver real, measurable value. That’s where tried and tested defenses like Carbon Black Cloud and Carbon Black App Control stand out—helping businesses of all sizes defend their endpoints, applications and critical systems from evolving threats.

According to Forrester Total Economic Impact (TEI) studies commissioned by Carbon Black, composite organizations of real businesses using Carbon Black Cloud saw a 363% return on investment over three years, and 207% with Carbon Black App Control—all from reducing time addressing malware, faster investigations, streamlined operations, avoided breach downtime and more.

When it comes to building a safer cyberworld, innovation that works—and proves its worth—is what moves us forward.

Symantec: Securing the future with AI

As interest in AI continues to skyrocket (a whopping 190% jump from 2023 to 2024), Symantec is applying its intentional, proven security strategies to how we harness AI—for real value and not hype. Incident Prediction, our latest AI-powered solution, accurately maps an attacker’s next four to five moves with up to 100% confidence—exposing their likely attack plan. Using AI-driven predictive analytics, Incident Prediction takes ushers in a new era of proactive defense for endpoint security—one that’s only just beginning.

To a future worth defending

No single entity has all the answers—and that’s why community matters. Events like RSAC™ 2025 Conference and Infosecurity Europe serve as more than industry check-ins. They’re gatherings where groundbreaking ideas are exchanged, shared challenges are tackled and innovation fuels lasting progress.

This year, Infosecurity Europe is spotlighting the collective effort needed to build a safer cyberworld—a mission we stand behind. We believe a safer digital world isn’t some far off, utopian ideal. It’s already in motion. And we’re proud to be a driving force in the industry pushing towards progress and innovation—with the tools, talent and intelligence that help our customers take action.
