5 Ways to Streamline Data Center Security Management

Symantec’s new Data Center Security (DCS) Management Console offers simplicity without sacrificing security

Managing your organization’s data center security in today’s complex digital environments can feel like a constant uphill battle. Between protecting sensitive information, meeting compliance standards, managing multiple security solutions and keeping up with evolving threats, it’s no wonder security teams are stretched thin.

Simplifying these processes is essential for teams to stay efficient—and ahead of threats. Streamlining security management begins with tools and strategies that reduce complexity, improve visibility, and enhance control.

Symantec’s new Data Center Security (DSC) Management components are designed to simplify the management experience. With enhanced UX and intuitive workflows, the new DCS unified console allows users to navigate between priorities using a distinct management server, communication server and management console.

Enhance DCS management efficiencies with these five strategies

Here are key strategies to smooth out your data center security management inefficiencies—and how Symantec’s new DCS Management Console makes them possible:

1. Tailor user management to your organization

One-size-fits-all solutions don’t cut it in cybersecurity. Tailor your management experience to fit your organization’s security needs. With DCS’s new custom tagging capabilities, administrators can prioritize what matters most by tagging relevant objects within the console.

2. Get the right data when you need it

Filter and customize your data to generate better-informed reports—and decisions. The new console’s Quick Filters and Custom Granular Filters offer advanced filtering options to search assets, alerts and incidents based on specific criteria like timeframes, policies, incidents and more. Administrators can also search specific rules within policy content and instantly find data, policies and incidents through these custom filters.

To simplify compliance processes, centralized certificate management allows for certificate viewing and downloading directly within the console's settings tab.

3. Scale with confidence in containerized environments

As organizations continue to adopt containerized environments, scalability is crucial. The new DCS communication server allows administrators to manage their assets and containers separately—and more effectively. Changes to the DCS management infrastructure coupled with a new communication server allow load balancing of container assets, providing greater container management scalability.

4. Mitigate inactive user risk

Inactive users pose a risk to systems, applications and the organizations that manage them. The DCS unified management console helps you monitor these risks by tracking user activity. The DCS unified console calculates and displays the time since last login and disables inactive users for the configured time period. Failed login attempts are automatically tracked and logged to meet compliance requirements.

5. Harden your data center

Servers are the backbone of any organization’s digital infrastructure, making them prime targets for attacks. Unfortunately, traditional endpoint solutions often provide protection that is too broad for server-specific vulnerabilities.

Symantec DCS secures and hardens physical and virtual servers against malware and network threats. Through hardening, monitoring and malware protection, DCS secures public and private cloud environments, physical data centers and Docker containers, which enables organizations to maintain a secure and resilient data center without constant time and resource demands.

Streamline data center security without compromise

The new Symantec DCS Management Console redefines what it means to manage data protection. With a unified console, enhanced UX and intuitive workflows, it’s easier than ever to access comprehensive server protection services. Symantec DCS empowers teams to optimize operations, meet compliance requirements and secure their data environments—all through one unified console.

Streamlined cybersecurity and effective cybersecurity don’t have to be mutually exclusive. Whether you're just about to deploy DCS or have been using it for years, the new console will make managing server security simpler.
